T.M.T Chairman’s Report 2008
This year has more been about how to raise money for the Charity and after Adrian’s problems with the local council and benefits agency, it became clear that everything that was being done in the name of the charity had to be stated and put through the books and any donations that were made for work that was done would all be made as donation to the Charity and appear on the accounts. With this in mind an advert was placed in yellow pages to try to attract funding for the charity by offering therapies. Any money that was given to Adrian for his time or expenses would have to be put through as donations to the Charity.

The Wheelsforafrica.org.uk website has been a great asset to have though there are still fundamental problems to work out like the gift aid /donation page, though we can say a big thank you to our web designer Wez Smith. We can now send out invitations to the whole world to come and look at our project and send a donation or get in touch with us. This has given us the opportunity to get the website onto the GBWBA website and has been a great success in generating donations of wheelchairs. This has also led me to believe that it is the solid frame wheelchairs that we should be now concentrating on sending out and not just any old chair. This includes collapsible chairs or hospital chairs these are all the type of chairs that Glenda would be happy to receive and send out through her Charity “Wheels for the World”.

My main aim this year on my return to working in The Gambia with the VSO and our new partners is to administer sports coaching, capacity building and occupational training. I also want look to provide the necessary facilities and funding to do so. GPDSA are coming to the end of their lease on their building and it would great if we could help them to secure the property. I am also committed to promoting the work of the GPDSA in the Gambia whist awareness building and building link wit the UK already there is talk of getting the team to come to the UK for a visit. I’m also promoting the T.M.T. charity in the UK and in Africa and believe that together we are providing the opportunity to build a better future for us all.
